Supporting community
There is no denying that the coronavirus pandemic has changed our lives and will have lasting impacts on our community. While many are focused on the economic impacts the pandemic has caused, it is important to remember that our at-risk communities have suffered not only economic hardships, they have lost their social and emotional support networks as well.
If you have ever had a bad day during this crisis with a neurotypical son or daughter imagine what it is like with a special needs’ child. Smiling Goat’s families have lost all their support with schools and programs like ours being closed. The social and emotional recovery of our communities is vitally important. Our economy – both locally and nationally – is built on people and, at the end of the day, programs like SGR are for many the only place they have to recover and we are tremendously grateful to the individuals, organizations and granting entities that support us.
